The euro leads to price rises! The Consumer Protection Minister takes drastic measures! After the changeover from Deutsche Mark to the artificial common currency of the Euro, there is dicsontent in the broad population about price trends in retail. The retail prices in many cases aren't converted in the ratio 1.95583 DM equal to 1 €, as had been promised by politics. Instead, many retailers take advantage of the opportunity to covertly raise their prices. Although the official statistics authorities of the FRG vigorously deny the existence of a significant price-rising effect of the Euro, in general population the opposite impression is obtained. In retrospect, it would not have been the first official governmental or authority lies in the context of the Euro currency. More were to follow: the bailout- ban lie, the lie that there would be no purchase of government bonds by the ECB, the lie with infamous Maastricht criteria that have been disregarded by federal governments since that time and time again. In the caricature above consumer protection minister of the Red-Green government, Renate Künast, disciplines trade with its tricky pricing policy: "Hehehe - please, please do not tickle ..." (2001).
